Global Pumpkiln Day is a community-oriented observance. It invites people to gather, learn, experiment, and reflect together around small-scale biochar practice.
There is no required format and no central coordination. Participation is shaped by local relationships, local knowledge, and local conditions.
Who Can Take Part?
Global Pumpkiln Day welcomes:
Farmers and growers
Gardeners and allotment groups
Educators and students
Soil and climate initiatives
Community organisations
Neighbours and friends
Experience levels may vary. Learning together is part of the purpose.
When to Participate
Global Pumpkiln Day is observed annually on 1 November (All Saints’ Day).
Participants do not need to produce biochar on that exact date. If 1 November is not suitable due to local conditions, regulations, or personal commitments, pumpkiln activities may take place earlier. Photos, videos, or reflections can then be shared on 1 November as part of the shared moment.
Local conditions and safety considerations should always determine timing.
Ways Communities Can Participat
Participation may include:
Hosting a small, local pumpkiln gathering
Inviting neighbours to observe and learn
Sharing knowledge about soil and biochar
Reflecting on seasonal cycles and resource use
Demonstrating safe and responsible practice
Activities may be informal, educational, or demonstration-based. Large events are not required; small, thoughtful gatherings are equally valuable.
Learning and Exchange
Global Pumpkiln Day encourages:
Open exchange of practical experience
Discussion of soil stewardship
Sharing lessons learned
Building local confidence in safe biochar production
Participation is not about scale or performance, but about shared understanding and care for land.
Responsibility
All participants and organisers are responsible for:
Following local fire and environmental regulations
Prioritising safety at all times
Respecting neighbours and surrounding land uses
Adapting activities to local conditions
Before participating, please review the Safety Guidelines and General Tips pages.
Global Pumpkiln Day supports careful, respectful, and community-minded practice.
