What is Global Pumpkiln Day?
Global Pumpkiln Day takes place every year on 1 November (All Saints’ Day). It is a shared date when people around the world recognise and celebrate small-scale biochar production using pumpkin kilns (“pumpkilns”).
The date was chosen partly because of its proximity to Halloween, when pumpkins are widely available and can be thoughtfully repurposed after seasonal use.
Global Pumpkiln Day is not a centrally organised festival or conference. There is no main venue, no programme, and no required format. Instead, it is a distributed and voluntary observance: one date, many places.
Producing biochar on 1 November is not required. Participants may carry out their pumpkiln activities earlier and share their experiences, reflections, photos, or videos on 1 November as part of the shared moment.
Global Pumpkiln Day connects people through shared intention rather than shared location.
